Lisa Marie Presley Bio

Lisa Marie Presley

Sometimes all you need to do to be famous is to have a famous parent. This is arguably the case with Lisa Marie Presley, the daughter of rock and roll legend Elvis Presley and his wife Priscilla Beaulieu Presley. However, the younger Presley has also launched a career for herself in music and a singer, and has married several high-profile celebrities, such as Michael Jackson and Nicolas Cage. She is also a noted Scientologist.

Presley was born on February 1, 1968, in Memphis, Tennessee, the only daughter of legendary rocker Elvis. Growing up, Presley attended a number of boarding schools in and around California, and was reportedly expelled from one for drug possession and abuse. As the late Presley’s only child, the young Presley inherited his estate, but sold 85% of its holdings to CKX, Inc. in the summer of 2005—excluding Graceland. As an adult, Presley became famous for her rounds of marriages and divorces.

She first married in 1988, when she was only twenty, to musician Danny Keough, with whom she had two children (born in 1989 and 1992), and then divorced him amicably in 1994. Her next marriage to famous musician Michael Jackson was a high-profile one, but didn’t even last two years.

There was much public speculation and debate about the cause behind the split, including rumors that Jackson wanted a piece of the Elvis Presley pie, and that Presley just wanted his money and to recruit him into the Church of Scientology. The couple’s divorce became official on January 18, 1996.

Her next marriage was to A-list actor Nicolas Cage, who is known as an avid Elvis fan; but after marrying in August 2002, they separated a mere four months later. Presley most recently married Michael Lockwood, a noted guitarist, in January 2006, and her first hubbie Keough was actually the best man. Presley and her mother joined the Church of Scientology in the mid-1990s through actor John Travolta, and lived in Clearwater, Florida, close to the Scientology Celebrity Center, after which she sold her home to actress Kirstie Alley, also a Scientologist. Continuing with the famous-by-who-you-know and who-you’re-related-to theme, Presley also enjoys a very close friendship with singer and actress Linda Thompson, who is also Elvis’ ex-girlfriend.

It was through this relationship with Thompson and Thompson’s then-hubbie, record producer and musician David Foster, that young Presley was able to launch a music career. Foster has worked with and helped propel the musical careers of Clay Aiken, Celine Dion, Barbra Streisand, Kenny Rogers, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Chicago, Mariah Carey, Madonna, Destiny’s Child, and Gordon Lightfoot, among many others.

Presley released her debut album, To Whom It May Concern, in 2003, which reached the #5 position in the U.S. charts and certified gold status. Her follow-up album, Now What, came two years later, going certified gold and reaching the #9 spot.
