Kelly Osbourne

The heavily tattooed daughter of the self-proclaimed Prince of Darkness, Kelly Osbourne first emerged as a co-star of a reality television show. The tenth grade dropout has battled drug addiction, launched her own fashion line and appeared on a popular teen drama. Her aspirations of becoming a music artist, however, have so far been only mildly successful. It seems that even the legacy of her rock legend father wasn’t enough to launch this twenty-something to the top of the charts.

Kelly Osbourne was born on October 27, 1984, in London, England. Her first flirtation with fame was as a co-star on the foul-language filled reality series The Osbournes. The show followed Kelly, along with her brother and parents, as they cursed, fought, threw bricks, and led their seemed surprisingly ordinary privileged lives. Running for fifty-two episodes, the show ended in March of 2005, but would pave the way for other reality series such as Growing Up Gotti and The Anna Nicole Smith Show.

Taking full advantage of her time in the spotlight, Kelly launched her music career while her life was being broadcast to viewers worldwide. In 2002, Shut Up!, Kelly’s first recording effort, was released by Epic. Although her cover of pop legend Madonna’s "Papa Don’t Preach" generated some buzz for the album, it wasn’t enough to make the album a huge success. Neither was the father-daughter duet of "Changes," a Black Sabbath tune that was later added to the album.

Although the duet reached number one on the UK charts, critics trashed the effort, sales were marginal, and Epic dropped Kelly from their label. Sleeping in the Nothing, Osbourne’s second attempt, sold less than nine thousand copies. Although album sales were a disappointment, her first single, "One Word," topped three Billboard dance charts. As of 2005, Kelly has stated that she is working on a new album, despite reports that she was giving up on her music career.

Aside from being a reality television star, Kelly appeared in a supporting role on the teen drama Life As We Know It in 2004. In the same year, she and friend Ali Barone launched Stiletto Killers, a signature fashion line featuring rock-themed clothing. She has also replaced model Elizabeth Hurley as the host of Project Catwalk, the UK version of Project Runway. Also in 2004, while appearing on television and marketing her products, Kelly checked into rehab for a painkiller addiction. Although she completed her treatment, her addiction was a demon that would continue to haunt Kelly. A year later, she entered drug rehab again.

Kelly’s father is Ozzy Osbourne, the legendary singer of Black Sabbath, the original heavy metal band. Her mother is Sharon Osbourne, an outspoken personality who briefly hosted her own talk show. Brother Jack has also battled drug addiction and now stars in Jack Osbourne: Adrenaline Junkie. Sister Aimee has chosen to stay out of the public eye; she was never seen on the family’s show. On the romantic front, Kelly calls Fields band member Matty Derham her true love. In true Osbourne style, the couple took part in a non-legally binding wedding ceremony in an inflatable church during an Irish festival in May of 2006.
